What is a respiratory disorder?
These are disorders affect the upper respiratory tract (nose and nasal cavity, mouth throat and voice box), to the lower respiratory tract (trachea, the bronchi and bronchioles, and the alveoli).
What is COPD?
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease tends to affect older individuals who smoke it can cause breathing difficulties.
How is smoking a risk factor for cardio-vascular problems
Smoking and secondhand smoke exposure are risk factors for cardiovascular problems. It is believed that the chemicals you inhale can damage your heart and blood vessels, which could lead to cardiovascular disease.
What are allergies?
This is where your body reacts to certain substances such as dust or pollen. It is believed air pollution is a factor associated with some allergic respiratory diseases. Hay Fever is an allergic reaction to pollen which can cause symptoms such as runny nose.
How can poor housing affect an individuals development?
Damp and mould could lead to conditions such as asthma
Overcrowding has also been linked to poor indoor air quality.
Cold conditions can lead to hypothermia - a dangerous drop in body temperature
Low income households often cannot afford heating and adequate food
Being unable to pay bills = anxiety and depression
Who might not have access to services?
Individuals who are vulnerable immigrants or an individual who is homeless.
WHy might some people not be able to access services?
English may not be their first language or they may not have a family member or friend who could take them.
Who else might find it hard to access services?
Individuals who are full time carers or individuals who work long hours.
What is early intervention policy
Early intervention policy is a public approach to identify and provide support to children and their families at an early stage and prevent poor outcomes. Local health and social care services aim to improve health, emphasise the importance of health and wellbeing and reduce poverty to lower the risk of early death.
