Electricity Flashcards
What is static electricity?
a build up of charge in one place
e.g. baloon and hair
What is current elctricity?
Flow of charge from one place to another
e.g. turning on a light
What is an electrical conductor?
Any object that easily allows charge to flow along it
e.g. metal
What is an electrical insulator?
Any object that resists the flow of charge along it
e.g. plastic
What is voltage?
The force moving charge around the circuit
What is current?
The amount of charge flowing past any point in a circuit
What is resistance?
The characteristic of the materials in the circuit that opposes flow of charge
What does Ohm’s Law state?
At a constant temperature, the amount of current passing through a material is directly proportional to the voltage across it.
The greater the voltage, the greater the current
