Electrical Stimulation Flashcards
High frequency w/ constant stimulation is used for?
Best for draining excess, alleviating pain & stopping spasms. Good for retention of urine.
Lower frequency w/ alternating quick & slow stimulation does what?
Incontinence, strengthens deficiency and is preferred for Tx of paralysis or numbness.
Cautions for E-stim/pregnancy
Do not use on the lower body or leg points in a pregnant woman–especially during the 3rd trimester.
E-stim treats what conditions?
Neuralgia, nervous paralysis
High frequency or high amplitude is cautioned for what condition?
Hypertension. May induce stress.
- Warm needle & E-stim is CONTRAINDICATED in hypertension*
Dense (continuous, fast) wave is used for?
Stopping pain or trauma. It is also used for electro-anesthesia.
Dispersing (low freq., continuous) wave is used for?
Paralysis, early stroke & numbness. Maybe used for Bell’s Palsy if used immediately.
Dense & dispersing (mixed) wave is used for?
Chronic pain, muscle weakness, stroke, tissue regeneration, inflammation, edema, MS, chronic Bell’s Palsy.
Discontinuous (DD/mixed, slow frequency) wave is used for?
Severe paralysis, spinal nerve injury, trauma & more severe motor nerve injuries.
