Accidental Injury to Organ: Lungs

In case of pneumothorax, carefully & immediately withdraw the needle. Encourage the PT to lie calmly. Call 911 or take them to the hospital if symptoms are severe.

Symptoms: pain in the chest & cough, dyspnea, pallor, cyanosis, coma

Question 5

Accidental Injury to Organ: Liver or Spleen

Answer 5

May rupture or bleed.

Symptoms: abdominal pain, rigidity of the abdominal muscles and/or rebound pain upon pressure.

Accidental Injury to Organ: Kidneys

May cause pain in the lumbar region, tenderness & pain upon percussion around the Kidney region w/ blood urine.

Accidental Injury to Organ: Brain & Spinal Cord

Deep needling or manipulation at GB 20, DU 15 or DU 16 may result in bleeding and other severe consequences.

Symptoms: convulsions, paralysis, coma

Artery: apply direct pressure for up to 5 minutes.

Vein: apply direct pressure for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
