X-Ray Series
Normal Series
- AP
- Lateral
AP Elbow
- Cassette - 24x30, horizontal divided into halves
- Positioning - seated or kneeling at the end of the table, place arm across the cassette in the anatomical position. Humerus and forearm need to be in the same plane. Place forearm on one half off the cassette and cover the other half with lead sheeting
- Stabilization - elbow on table and arm as flat as possible
- Shielding - Gonad shielding/lead apron and turn head away
- Instructions - palpate the epicondyles and make sure sure it is parallel to the cassette
- SID - 100cm
- Central Ray - centred and middle of the cubital fossa
- Tube Tilt - 0
- Collimation - M-L, include soft tissues of the elbow. S-I, include the distal humerus and proximal radius and ulna joints
- kV - Children 60 and adults 70
- Marker Placement - lateral to the anatomy
Lateral Elbow
Cassette - 24x30, vertical,divided into halves
Positioning - seated or kneeling at the end of the table, elbow is bent at 90 and resting on the table. Thumb pointed towards the ceiling. Place forearm on one half off the cassette and cover the other half with lead sheeting
Stabilization - may need to raise the wrist 10cm on pad to allow centre ray to pass through
Shielding - Gonad shielding/lead apron and turn head away
Instructions - palpate the epicondyles and make sure they are superimposed
SID - 100cm
Central Ray - centred over lateral epicondyle
Tube Tilt - 0
Collimation - M-L, include soft tissues of the forearm and elbow. S-I, include the elbow joint. 1/3 forearm and 1/3 humerus
kV - Children 60 and adults 70
Marker Placement - anterior to the anatomy
