Axial Calcaneus

A
  • Cassette - 18x24, vertical
  • Positioning - fencer stance, facing away from the tube. Foot is placed on the cassette with knee slightly flexed
  • Stabilization - standing comfortably, hold chair if needed
  • Shielding - Gonad shielding/lead apron
  • Instructions - ensure malleoli are superimposed
  • SID - 100cm
  • Central Ray - mid achilles tendon at insertion
  • Tube Tilt - 30-40 from horizontal
  • Collimation - A-P, include soft tissues of the calcaneus. S-I, include all the calcaneus
  • kV - Children 60 and adults 70
  • Marker Placement - lateral to the anatomy in PA orientation

AP Calcaneus

A
  • Cassette - 18x24, vertical
  • Positioning - pt is sitting on the floor, leg extended, posterior of lower leg and heel on cassette with foot at 90 dorsiflexed
  • Stabilization - sit comfortably
  • Shielding - Gonad shielding/lead apron
  • Instructions - ensure foot is dorsiflexed
  • SID - 100cm
  • Central Ray - base of 3rd metatarsal
  • Tube Tilt - 40 cephalad
  • Collimation - A-P, include soft tissues of the calcaneus. S-I, include all the calcaneus
  • kV - Children 60 and adults 70
  • Marker Placement - lateral to the anatomy

Lateral Calcaneus

A
  • Cassette - 18x24, vertical
  • Positioning - pt is lying or sitting with lateral side of foot on cassette and dorsiflexed
  • Stabilization - sit comfortably and can use sponge to stablize
  • Shielding - Gonad shielding/lead apron
  • Instructions - ensure patella is perpendicular to the cassette
  • SID - 100cm
  • Central Ray - 2cm inferior and posterior to medial malleolus
  • Tube Tilt - 0
  • Collimation - A-P, include soft tissues of the calcaneus. S-I, include all the calcaneus
  • kV - Children 60 and adults 70
  • Marker Placement - anterior to the anatomy
