DS - RCL Flashcards
What does SAI mean?
Safety Arming Initiation
At what distance will the SAI arm itself after firing?
12-40m
Why is the CART 84mm HEDP FFV 502 classed as dual purpose?
Because it can be used in both HE or HEAT
function.
Why is the CART 84mm HEDP FFV 502 fin stabilised and not spin stabilised?
xx
So not to degrade the formation of the jet from the shaped charge.
What does 84mm HE FFV 441B use for Frag?
Identify the main fill and weight of explosive?
800 steel balls
..HE filling of 345g of RDX/TNT
What does the steel body contain?
HE 502
2 neoprene rubber inserts that contain a total of 800 steel balls
What fuze is used on
84mm HE FFV 441B?
MTSQ Stider 447 Fuze (with impact and graze function)
What two types of fuzing/action does the
MTSQ fuze FFV447 provide the user
Airburst
Impact
Describe actions of 84mm ILLUM FFV 545 after
expelling charge functions ?
Priming composition in top of candle ignites Candle & half casings forced onto projectile base, breaking shear screws Candle ejected, half casings fall away Illumination comp ignited
How many pre selected ranges does the
545C have?
What do they range from?
How many safety arrangements are there in the S.A.D?
- 7 range settings
- 300 to 2100m
- 3
What is the safety wait time for the 554C and
why?
60 min to allow capacitor bleed down
What is the minimum safe separation distance delay for the FFV 545C?
at least 40m
Cartridge 84mm HEAT FFV 551
What is the purpose of the Distance Tube?
Provide optimum stand off
Acts as a shock transmitter for the piezo-electric crystals
Cartridge 84mm HEAT FFV 551
What is the HE filling?
What is the booster?
460g of Octol (HMX/TNT 70/30)
Booster Tetryl 7.39g
Cartridge 84mm HEAT FFV 551
What is the RKT MT propellant type & QTY?
AKB 250m Double Based 270g
Cartridge 84mm HEAT FFV 551
Describe the functioning once the projectile strikes the target?
When the projectile strikes a target the five piezo-electric crystals convert the shock of impact into electrical energy
Providing the impact is of sufficient strength, the current generated will pass through the four layer diode via the contact piece and function the electric detonator in the rotor
The detonator output functions the booster pellets, which then function the main HE filling
What is the acronym ASM?
What is the Explosive type and amount of the main fill?
Anti Structure Munition
PAX-47 2.0 Kg
What are the components of the fuze?
- Det, Escarpment locking pin, Detent pin and ball
- Rotor, Rotor lock, Driving plunger, Delay Det
- Magnetic inertias pellet, and Inertia Pellet detent
If you were to encounter a UXO 84mm HEAT
Projectile, there are certain safety precautions which
you must apply. What are they and why must they be
applied?
What: Do not allow a shadow to fall across the projectile or attempt to destroy the UXO during periods of suddenly alternating sunshine and shade that would cause a 2 C change in projectile
temperature.
Why . A Piezo electric element stressed by impact is susceptible to changes
in temperature. Rapid change of 2 C or more could cause a surge of
electrical current sufficient to function the projectile.
Which ammunition type is simulated by CART 84MM
TP 552?
CART 84MM HEAT FFV 551
What are the 4 major parts of the CART 20mm/502 TRAC w/cap PERC?
- Driving Band Plastic
- Projectile and Tracer Steel
- Cartridge Case Plastic
- Safety Plate Aluminium.
What inert rounds cannot be used for weapon handling
Sectionalised

What does the slipping ring achieve?
HEAT 551
Slows spin rate down to approx 450 rpm
