Q

Detonator Non-Electric Demolition F1

Operation?

A
  • The F1 Detonator, as shown in Figure 1, is prepared for use by removal of the plug, inserting the required length of Fuse Blasting Time (FBT) into the open end of the tube and crimping in place.
  • The FBT is lit and burns at its predetermined rate until it reaches the end secured in the detonator.
  • At burn completion, the FBT ‘spits’ a flame output onto the ASA priming charge causing it to function.
  • The ASA changes the burn output of the FBT to a detonation output by very rapidly burning to detonation this has sufficient energy to cause the detonation of the TR1 composition.
  • The TR1 increases the power output to a level that can be used to initiate high explosive charges and detonating cords.

Q

Det Elect Dem F2 Operation

A
  • The F2 Detonator is prepared for use by connecting its electrical leads to a length of firing cable that is attached to an approved electrical initiation device, and attaching the detonator to the target e.g. a length of detonating cord.
  • When fired, the electrical energy from the initiation device travels along the firing cable into the detonator lead wires and to the fuse head.
  • At the fuse head, the energy passes along the copper foil strips into the bridge wire, which is surrounded by athe fuse head composition.
  • The bridge wire is heated by the electric current to a point where initiation of the fuse head composition occurs.
  • The resulting flame initiates the ASA priming charge, which rapidly burns to detonation and causes detonation of the TR1 composition.
  • The TR1 pellets increase the power output to a level that can be used to initiate high explosive charges or detonating cords..

13
Q

Operation of the M81

A
  • The FBT or Shock Tube is inserted in the igniter and secured.
  • Then the pull ring is pulled, the pull rod and firing pin are carried back against increasing spring compression until the split cylinder of the striker assembly slips over the release washer.
  • The release washer forces open the split cylinder and disengages the striker assembly from the pull rod.
  • This permits the compressed spring to re–assert itself thus driving the striker assembly onto the primer.
  • This action initiates the primer and the resultant spit of flame ignites the Time Blasting Fuse or Shock Tube. - The gases resulting from initiation are emitted through the venting passage in the pull rod to the atmosphere.
  • The venting passage is open to the atmosphere only when the rod is in the fired position and therefore does not affect the weatherproof feature of the igniter.
