14
Q

How would the 118 Mk 3 be rendered safe during normal manual handling operations?

FLARE COUNTERMEASURE INFRA-RED 118 MK3

A

By the inclusion of the sequencer

In order for the flare pellet to be ignited, the take-over cup composition must be initiated followed by movement of the slider to open the flame path, once the sequencer has been jettisoned from the outer case.

16
Q

Why does the CEOFE use 2 squibs?

A

They both provide sufficient energy to propel the slug with the force required to rupture the frangible disc

thereby providing a REDUNDANCY should one squib fail to operate

17
Q

What is the following used for?
Cartridge Impulse - ARD 863-1A1W

Topic 705

A
  • Used to provide gas pressure to eject various stores and release equipment from various aircraft.

The stores may include bombs, fuel tanks, launchers, racks, pylons and other explosive ordnance.

18
Q

How is the Cart Impulse-ARD initiated?

Topic 10, para 6

A

Electrically

When the firing current is applied, the bridgewire becomes incandescent causing the ignition composition to ignite

19
Q

30mm name of gun, name of platform

A

GIAT 30M781 Gun System

ADF ARH Tiger

20
Q

30mm (SAPHEI) Function from setback

Theory - Fill in blanks

A
  • At firing setback drives the firing pin assembly to the rear and compresses the firing pin spring.
  • ## At this point the explosive train is still out of alignment to ensure firing safety
21
Q

SAPHEI muzzle safety

What is the muzzle safety distance provided by the spiral spring expanding and controlling the outward travel of the pins?

A

Minimum of 15 metres

The outward rate of travel of the pins is controlled by the rate at which the spiral spring expands and
hereby provides a muzzle safety distance of a minimum of 15 metres.

22
Q

Label parts of the rocket…(?)

Inductive Plug
Retaining Ring
Spectrum FIlter
Spring Box Assembly

Propellant Grain
End Sleeve
Nozzle and Fin Assembly
Wraparound Fins
Sealing Washer
Felt Disc
Stabilising Rod
Rocket Motor Tube

23
Q
Self destruct actioned in what time of flight?
What force(s)/function is involved?

FZ BD MR3005
Cartridge 30mm OSPEI (SAPHEI) F7671

A

6 - 16 seconds
Spin decay and spring pressure
This will occur as a result of the centrifugal force decaying and allowing the balls to move inwards. The stored energy in the firing pin spring then drives the firing pin forward and the fuze is functioned as normal.

24
Q

What is the purpose of the contact ring?
When is the shorting clip removed?

Rocket Motor 2.75 inch FZ90 Mod 2/S

A
  • It provides the electrical initiation of the rocket via the detent mechanism in the rocket pod.
  • only removed immediately prior to loading of the rocket into the pod
25
Q

“352 - initial thrust to boom”

A
  • Forward acceleration of the Laser Guided Rocket causes the Electronic Thermal Battery Initiator (ETBI) within the WGU-59/B to activate the 28Vdc thermal battery.
  • The CAS, which controls the wings, boots up and the wings deploy once the Laser Guided Rocket has safely separated from the Tiger ARH
  • Approx 1 sec after launch from the Tiger ARH the wings of the WGU-59/B instigate de-roll
  • Distributed Aperture Semi Active Laser Seeker (DASALS). The DASALS provides a40-degree forward field of view, which enables it to quickly obtain precise target locations based on the detection of laser radiation reflected from a target being lased
  • information from the DASALS along with information from the on-board Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) enables the WGU-59/B to steer the 2.75” rocket to the target being lased.
