Dissection 11 Flashcards
What are the 3 parts of the deltoid muscle?
posterio (spinal); middle (acromial) and anterior (clavicular)
What is the function of the spinal part of the deltoid?
extension at the shoudler
What is the function of the acromial part of deltoid?
abduction at shoulder- taking over from supraspinatous beyond 15 degrees)
What is the function of the clavicular part of deltoid?
mainly flexion at shoulder
What does the ascedning part of trapezius do?
scapular depression
what is the function of the middle part of trapezius?
retraction
What is the function of the descending part of trapezius?
elevation
What do the ascending and descending parts of trapezius work together to do?
superior rotation of glenoid fossa
What is the function of levator scapulae?
elevation of scapula and inferior rotation of glenoid fossa
What do rhomboid major and minor do?
retraction of scapula and inferior rotation of glenoid fossa
What are the rotator cuff muscles?
SITS- Supraspinatus Infrapsinatus Teres minor Subscapularis
What is the function of supraspinatus?
first 15 degrees of abduction at hsoulder
What is the function of infraspinatus and teres minor?
stabilise head of humerus in glenoid/lateral rotation at shoulder
What is the function of subscapularis?
stabilise head of humerus in glenoid/medial rotation at shoulder
What is the function of teres major?
adduction/medial rotation at shoulder
What does the deltoid muscle do when all parts of the muscle work together?
abduction of the shoulder joint
What is needed for the full abduction and adduction of the arm?
the scapula most rotate so that the glenoid fossa moves- superiorly for abduction and ineriorly for adduction
Why are the SITS muscles named the rotator cuff?
the distal tendons blend and reinforce the fibrous capsule of the shoulder joint
What is the pupose of the rotator cuff?
stabilises the shallow ball and socket joitn
What is the distal insertion of supraspinatus, infraspinatus and teres minor?
greater tubercle of the humerus
What is the distal attachment of the subscapularis?
lesser tubercle of the humerus
What is foudn in the deep aspect of trapezius muscle?
spinal accessory nerve
What are the muscles deep to trapezius from superior to infeior?
levator scapulae; rhomboid minor ; rhomboid major
What do the muscles deep to trapezius attach to?
medial border of the scapula and the spinous process of cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae
What nerve supplies the deltoid musce?
axiallry
What is the proximal attachment for subscapularis?
subscapular fossa
What is the proximal attachment for infraspinatous?
infraspinatous foss
What is the prox. attahcment for supraspinatous fossa?
supraspinatous fossa
What is the proximal attachment for teres minor?
middle part of lateral border of shoulder
What causes painful arc syndrome?
impingement of supraspinarous endon between the humerus and acromion process which will cause pain during abduction
