diencephalon Flashcards
structures of the diencephalon
thalamus, meta-thalamus, epi-thalamus and hypo-thalamus
thalamus provides a relay station for all incoming fibers expect of the
olfactory, visual and auditory fibers
the meta-thalamus is a relay station for
optic (= in lateral geniculate bodies) and auditory fibers (=medial geniculate bodies)
the epi-thalamus consists in the
epiphysis gland and habenular nucleus (=connected to olfactory centers)
the anterior nuclei of the hypothalamus produce
the vasopressin and oxytocin hormones
middle nuclei of the hypothalamus produce
release factor hormones (which regulate the secretion of the adenohypohypse)
posterior nuclei of the hypothalamus produce
hormones adjusting vasomotor and thermal regulations
the basal nuclei (basal ganglia)
situated above and lateral of thalamus
situated on the trajectory with the extrapyramidal pathways
control of motor movements
regulating the automated motility ordered by the cortex
