Management of diabetes
A
History:
- How often checking BSLs?
- What is control like?
- Review insulin regime and adherence
- Diet/exercise
- Latest HbA1c?
- Any hypos and hypo awareness?
- Injection site rotation
Insulin pump: continuous subcutaneous insulin. Can do pump downloads.
Consider simplifying regime
Emergency plan for hypos (glucagon at home)
MDT including Endocrine and diabetes nurse educator
Consider driving safety in adolescent “BSL above 5 to drive”
Discuss alcohol - causes delayed hypo. Make sure young person has friend with them who knows they have diabetes

Screening
- Other autoimmune conditions (coeliac, thyroid, addisons if symptomatic)
- Ophthalmology 2 yearly
- Urine Alb/Cr annually
- Neuropathy
- Lipids
- BP annually
Macrovascular
- Typically begins in adulthood
- IHD
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Cerebrovascular disease
Microvascular
- Retinopathy
- Nephropathy
- Neuropathy
