CKD mineral / bone disorder

A

Risk factors:
- CKD, diet, physical activity, sun exposure
Complications e.g. low impact fractures

Investigations:

  • Bloods UEC, Phosphate, Calcium, ALP, PTH, Vit D
  • DEXA scans

Manage:

  • Sunlight
  • Low phosphate diet
  • Phosphate binders
  • Supplementation Vit D/Calcium
  • Renal dietician to assist with bolstering diet
  • Weight bearing exercise + physiological review
  • Consider falls risk e.g. home modifications, optimise vision / gait aids
