Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Blisters are not always seen because they can be scratched off.
Primary lesion is a vesicle.
Classic locations are extensor arms, knees, forehead, and buttocks.
Associated with Celiac disease.
Sarcoptes scabiei
Scabies parasite
Causes burrows in the skin
Scabies
Fine diffuse excoriated eruption.
The itch is a reaction to the mite.
Look for mites in around wrists and between fingers.
Lichen Planus
Lacy white pattern on the buccal mucosa
Papules are the primary lesion
Purple polygonal papules appear on the skin that are “flat topped” or “lichenoid”.
Atopic Dermatitis
Eczema
“The itch that rashes”
Extensor and facial involvement is common in infants
Chronic inflammation and localization to flexures increase in prevelance with age
Uremic Pruritis
Caused by chronic kidney failure and high levels of urea in the blood.
Needs an urgent nephrology referral.
