LAPD’s policy requires police officers to record all _______ or _______ encounters with the public
investigative or enforcement
While LAPD officers MAY inform individuals that they are being recorded on body worn video cameras, such notice is not required if:
the officers are lawfully in the area where the recording takes place.
(Department members and their activities may be captured on BWV cameras without members being made aware of such recording. Always assume you are being recorded.)
Examples of encounters that would require LAPD officers to activate their BWV cameras include:
-Vehicle stops and pedestrian stops
-When interacting with citizens on calls for service or when responding to emergencies
-In foot pursuits, when conducting searches, or when involved in a use of force
-When making arrests, and during in-custody transports
-When interviewing victims/witnesses
-When crowd management or control involves enforcement or investigative contact
-During other investigative or enforcement activities when recording would assist in investigation of crime, prosecution of crime, or documenting an incident for later review/investigation (gives broad discretion to record)
Since LAPD reviews their recordings, when possible misconduct by a LAFD member is observed, the LAPD will notify the Department, subjecting the member to ______ review.

LAFD members should keep in mind that body worn video recordings are considered LAPD records and may be subject to release, whether under the _________ Act, under LAPD’s policy regarding release of BWV recordings, or through other means.
