Whenever members have a patient that has already been placed into an ambulance who is subsequently found to meet Reference No. 814 or a base hospital physician pronounces death, or scene circumstances necessitate the removal of the deceased patient from the scene due to scene safety issues - the following procedures shall be followed:
- Move RA to safe location as necessary.
- Request an EMS Battalion Captain be added to the incident (nonemergency).
- Telephone the Coroner Watch Commander to notify him in advance of the patient’s death and impending transport.
- Ensure that all personal property or physical evidence found with the patient accompanies the body to the Coroner’s Office whenever possible. Otherwise, ensure items are secured by law enforcement.
- Neither member shall ride in the patient compartment with the decedent.
- Enter “TSP” on the Mobile Data Computer, using Hospital Code 436.
- Transport NON-EMERGENCY to the Los Angeles County Department of the Coroner, Decedent Intake Area
- EMS Capt to follow RA
- Contact the on-duty Senior Forensic Attendant to deliver the body
- Receive a copy of the inventoried property receipt and document the Coroner’s receipt number
