(2) DB 15-14 BLS Transport Of Patients Requiring Pain Management Flashcards
Paramedic resources may provide pain management and then make BASE STATION CONTACT to request permission to have the patient transported via _____ ambulance.
BLS ambulance
In order for a paramedic resource to provide pain management and have a patient transported via BLS ambulance, patients must meet the following requirements:
-Adult/Pediatric patients with stable vital signs and no loss of conscious and GCS 15
-Pain scale <5 after treatment
Policy applies only to the following patient complaints/findings:
-Adult with a suspected “simple” (no neuro, vascular and/or motor deficits) extremity injury/fracture (excludes femur, includes a suspected single hip fracture).

5
BLS Transportation should cease and paramedics recalled for any patient who develops signs and/or symptoms of:
-allergic reaction
-respirations fall below normal limits
-GCS decreases.
(If paramedic ETA exceeds transport time, the BLS ambulance should upgrade transport to emergency. MFC should be notified to provide a patient update to the receiving hospital.)
Without exception and PRIOR to Paramedics leaving the scene, the following shall be performed:
- A receiving facility is agreed upon between on scene members and the base.
- All Paramedic RA ePCR information/meds “shared” with BLS ambulance prior to transport.
- Paramedic RA members shall document on the ePCR that resource care was transferred.
- Paramedic RA members shall update their MDC to “available” as soon as patient care is completed on scene and the BLS ambulance begins transport.
Pain management with BLS transport
Patient shall be transported to most accessible receiving facility or EDAP unless stated otherwise by _______.
Transport of patient shall be emergency or non-emergency?
-base station.
-Non-emergency.
(In all instances the ultimate decision for patient transport rests with the BASE STATION and transfer of care SHALL NOT occur WITHOUT base station authorization.)
