When did the UK start allowing women in to ground close combat roles?

Since the 25th of October 2018, women have been allowed in to infantry roles in all of three of the armed forces. The Royal Armoured Corps allowed women from 2016.
How many women have entered infantry roles?

5, as of August 2019. A lot more have joined in other closes combat roles, such as the Royal Armoured Corps.

An unnamed women passed a 16 week battle commanders course in Brecon.

Philippa Birch, 24, reportedly suffered a stress fracture on a march across Dartmoor where she was hauling a 70lb backpack and SA80 assault rifle. The ex-England rower became the first woman to train for the military’s green beret earlier this year.

Captain Eva Howard, of the Royal Army Medical Corps, came within two miles of being the first woman to complete the gruelling selection course for the parachute regiment.

What issues have women experienced?

There have been reports of the kit that we use not being properly designed for women.
As an example, bergens being too big and not ergonomically designed for women with wider hips.

Men and women should all be given equal opportunities. We should make access to roles in the forces as accessible as possible for those who want to serve, as long as this does not put lives at risk or impact the effectiveness of our forces.
