What you got up to at school
Played rugby for the school team, reaching the cup final for our division in the last year. Captained the team for a couple of games, but was not the most athletically talented on the team. I always attended training and loved to play but other hobbies took over when I reached college and being in a team was not top off my priorities anymore.
What you got up to at college.
During my college years and beyond i played in numerous bands, organising gigs in the local area as well as in London and speaking to promoters and other bands to arrange long weekends on tour. As part of my Music Technology course I was also the lead on getting the stage set up and connected for numerous college gigs we put on.
Outside interests during school years
I have already mentioned Rugby and Music during my school and college years. I used to play team sports (rounders, football) in the summer and spent time rehearsing in bands from a young age. I was very into building PC’s for the sake of producing my own music and playing video games.
Did you take a gap year or go to university?
I did not take a gap year. I could not afford it and my parents could not afford to send me to university. I went straight to work as an apprentice. Did not want to get in to a lifetime debt.
Have you had any travelling opportunities?
No major travelling. Went to Australia when i was a lot younger for a month to see family friends. Was introduced to skiing when i was 20 and prefer to go on a winter holiday and ski for a week every year as opposed to a summer holiday. I try and get away once per year skiing and also have a city break. On top of this, i like to get out somewhere in the UK where i can hike. Went to the Brecon Beacons last year which was awesome.
Activities outside of work? (Fitness)
I do “functional fitness” or Crossfit competitions fairly regularly and train pretty much every day. This includes all aspects of physical fitness. Some days i will be deadlifting over 200kg, other days I will go out and run 10 miles. I’m sure you have people way fitter than me come through here, but as someone who only got interested in sports in their early 20’s, I’m very proud of my achievements.
Activities outside of work (Sports)
I also try and take part in other sports just to mix up my training a little bit. I have gotten into combat sports (primarily BJJ but some Thai Boxing) and Rock Climbing / Bouldering. I do a bit less combat sports now as the gym i went to moved and I wanted to focus more time on running for my fitness test but currently climb every week
Activities outside of work (Holidays)
i like to ski and am currently learning to snowboard with my girlfriend. Bulgaria is my favourite place to go!
Voluntary Work / Charity participation?
Only once - spent a day at a Haven House Childrens Hospice charity shop helping out.
I donate to the air ambulance.
Have done a charity MMA fight for Cancer Research UK.
Involved in charity event through my Crossfit box raising money for mental health charity MIND.
Further Studies
I have gained other qualifications such as a Business and Administration NVQ during my apprenticeship and various Industry specific qualifications at work (ITIL, SDI) to further my career. I am currently doing another apprenticeship with my workplace in software development and engineering and am specifically studying web development - HTML5, CSS, Javascript, PHP, SQL.
