Where is Meadowhall situated?
A
Meadowhall is a large out-of-town shopping centre on the outskirts of Sheffield near a number of motorway intersections including the M1 and the M1A.

Why is Meadowhall built where it is?
A
- There is plenty of space for expansion and for providing large car parks
- It is near suburban housing which provides not only close by customers but also a workforce
- It has a large sphere of influence
- It used to be an old steelworks, therefore Meadowhall was built on a brownfield site
- Due to it’s central location, Meadowhall has around 800,000 visitors each week

What are the main characteristics of the shopping centre?
A
- It is bright and modern with many different facilities including a leisure centre, cinema and a creche.
- There are a total of 280 shops
- There is a large free car park accumulating for a total of 12,000 parking spaces
- There is a super tram link with the city centre
- 2 new railway stations were built following the construction of Meadowhall

What are some of the impacts that Meadowhall has on Sheffield?
A
- Many shops have closed down as a result of Meadowhall figuratively ‘stealing’ the customer base
- 15% trade loss in the city centre
There are now fewer shops and facilities in more rural areas therefore people must travel - Sheffield is now attempting to self-improve, redevelopment, citywatch, improved parking and so on are all methods used to try and improve both quality and standard of living in the main city areas.
