Q

What makes Bangladesh a country vulnerable to climate change?

A

Rising sea levels as a result of melting glaciers have a massive impact on the country itself as it is very low lying. It is also based around the delta of the River Ganges.

Most elevations in Bangladesh are 10m or below

Monsoon climate also contributes towards the risk of flooding due to strong prevailing wind speeds

Q

What measures have been taken to try and prevent the effects of flooding within Bangladesh?

A

Local villagers have built up flood defences such as levees made from mud.

Also early warning systems have been set up to alert people of incoming threats from flooding - this allows people to take shelter in emergency shelters constructed on high ground until the water subsides.
