What is a project?

What is a program?
A program is a group of related projects subsidiary programs and program activities that are managed in A coordinated manner to obtain benefits not available for managing them individually
What is a portfolio?
A portfolio is a collection of projects programs subsidiary portfolios and operations managed as a group to achieve STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
What focus does program and project management have?
Program and project management focus on doing programs and projects the RIGHT way.
What does portfolio management focus on?
Portfolio management focuses on doing the right programs and projects.
What is a project lifecycle?
A Series of phases that a project passes through from it start to its completion.
What is a project phase?
A collection of logically related project activities that culminates in the completion of one or more deliverables.
What is a phase gate?
A review at the end of a phase in which a decision is made to continue to the next phase, to continue with modification, or to end a project or program.
What are project management processes?
A systematic series of activities directed toward causing an end result where one or more inputs will be acted upon to create one or more outputs.
The project lifecycle is managed by executing a series of project management activities known as project management processes.
What is project management process groups?
A logical grouping of project management inputs, tools and techniques, and outputs.
The project management process group includes initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing.
Project Management process groups are not project phases!

What is done in the initiating process group?
The process is performed to define a new project or a new phase of an existing project by obtaining authorization to start the project or phase.
What is done in the planning process group?
Establish the scope of the project
Refine the objectives
defined the course of action required to attain the objectives that the project was undertaken to achieve.
What is organizational project management (OPM)?
A framework in which portfolio program and project management are integrated with organizational enabler’s in order to achieve strategic objectives
