Chapter 8 Learning Objectives Flashcards

1
Q

List and describe 3 principles of sensorimotor function.

A

1) the sensorimotor system is hierarchically organized.
2) motor output is guided by sensory input.
3) learning can change the nature and the locus of sensorimotor control.

Q

Describe 2 major areas of sensorimotor association cortex and evidence of their functions.

A

1) The posterior parietal association cortex.
- Helps integrate the original positions of body parts to be moved, and positions of external objects with which to interact.
- directing behavior by providing spatial information.
- directing attention.
2) The dorsolateral prefrontal association cortex.
- receives projections from the posterior parietal cortex, and sends projections to areas of secondary motor cortex, to primary motor cortex, and to frontal eye field.
