chapter 7- stimulus control Flashcards
1
Q
antecedent
A
- stimuli/ events that precede an operant response
* *important to analyze the antecedents and the consequences
2
Q
discriminative stimulus (SD)
A
- the stimulus that is present when a particular behaviour is reinforced
3
Q
generalization
A
- takes place when a behaviour occurs in the presence of stimuli that are similar in some ways to the SD that was present during stimulus discrimination training
(something happens regularly in gneral)
4
Q
S-delta
A
The S-delta (SD) is the stimulus in the presence of which the behavior is not reinforced
5
Q
stimulus control
A
- the outcome of stimulus discrimination training
- a particular behaviour is more likely to occur in the presence of a particular discriminative stimulus (SD) because the behaviour has been reinforced only when the SD was present
- SD has stimulus control over the behaviour
6
Q
stimulus discrimination training
A
- a process in which a behaviour is reinforced when the discriminative stimulus SD is present and is extinguished when the S-Delta is present
- when SD is present, the behaviour is reinforced
- when any other antecedent stimuli except the SD are present the behaviour is not reinforced; during discrimination training, any antecedent stimulus that is not enforced is called an S-Delta
- *as a result, of discrimination training, a behaviour is more likely to occur in the future when the SD is present but is less likely to occur when S-delta is present
7
Q
three-term contingency
A
- the antecedent that is present when the behaviour occurs, the behaviour, and the reinforcing consequence - also called contingency of reinforcement
8
Q
generalization gradient
A
- a graph showing how the strength of response changes with similarity
- stimuli must be similar
- as stimuli are less and less similar to the SD, the behaviour is less likely to occur in the presence of these stimuli
