chapter 5- extinction Flashcards
1
Q
extinction
A
- if a behaviour that was previously reinforced stops being reinforced, the behaviour will weaken or decrease
- *withholding the reinforcer for the behaviour
2
Q
extinction burst
A
- increase in frequency , duration, or intensity of the unreinforced behaviour during the extinction process
- emotional responses may occur during this time
3
Q
resistance to extinction RTE
A
- the tendency for a person to continue to respond after extinction is in effect for the behaviour; intermittent reinforcement schedules make the behaviour more resentment to extinction than do continuous reinforcement schedules
- continuous reinforcement before extinction produces much less resistance to extinction
4
Q
operant extinction
A
- the process by which when a previously reinforced behaviour is no longer followed by the reinforcing consequences the frequency of the behaviour decreases in the future
5
Q
respondent extinction
A
- the process by which when a CS is no longer paired with an US, the CS gradually ceases to elicit the CS
6
Q
operant spontaneous recovery
A
- the process in which when an operant behaviour has been extinguished the behaviour may occur at a later time in circumstance in which it was usually reinforced
7
Q
respondent spontaneous recovery
A
- the process in which the CS has been extinguished, the CR may occur at a later time when the CS is presented again
