chapter 10- prompting and transfer of stimulus control Flashcards
1
Q
extra-stimulus prompt
A
- a type of stimulus prompt in which a stimulus is added to help a person make a correct discrimination
- involve adding a stimulus to help a person make a correct discrimination
2
Q
fading
A
- the gradual removal of prompts as the behaviour continues to occur in the presence of the discriminative stimulus
- gradually elimination of the prompt as the behaviour continues to occur in the presence of the SD
- *ultimately the SD must have stimulus control over the behaviour
3
Q
gestral prompt
A
-a physical movement or gesture of another person that leads to the correct behaviour in the presence of the discriminative stimulus
4
Q
learning trial
A
- the sequence of the presenting the SD, prompting the response, and providing a reinforcer = learning trial
5
Q
modeling prompt
A
- a type of prompt in which the trainer demonstrates the TB for the learner
- works best in conjunction with instructions, in situations where the learner has an appropriate to rehearse the behaviour immediately after roleplay
6
Q
physical guidance
A
- another term for physical prompting
7
Q
prompt
A
- giving stimuli before or during a performance of a behaviour to increase the likelihood that a person will engage in the TB at the correct time
- used to increase the likelihood that a person will engage in the correct behaviour
- may involve the behaviour of the trainer or supplemental environmental stimuli
8
Q
prompt delay
A
- after the SD is presented, the prompt is delayed to provide the opportunity for an unprompted behaviour to occur
- in this procedure, you present the SD, wait a certain number of seconds, and then if the response is not made, you provide the prompt
9
Q
stimulus fading
A
- the stimulus is eliminated gradually as the behaviour occurs in the presence of the SD if the stimulus prompt involved adding a stimulus to get correct response to occur (extra stimulus prompt), stimulus fading would involve gradually removing that additional stimulus as the response begin to occur reliably in the presence of the SD
10
Q
stimulus prompt
A
- some change in the antecedent stimulus or addition or removal of an antecedent stimulus, with the goal of making a correct response more likely
11
Q
transfer of stimulus control
A
- a process in which prompts are removed once the TB is occurring in the presence of the SD- prompt fading and prompt delay and stimulus fading are procedures used to transfer stimulus control from the prompt to the SD
12
Q
verbal prompt
A
- a type of prompt in which the verbal behaviour of another person results in the correct behaviour of the trainee in the presence of the discriminative stimulus
13
Q
within-stimulus prompt
A
- a type of stimulus prompt in which some aspect of the discriminative stimulus or S is changed to help a person make a correct discrimination
- you can change the salience of an SD or S-delta in a number of ways
14
Q
response prompt
A
- a type of prompt in which the trainer engages in a behaviour to induce the client to engage in the TB in the presence of the discriminative stimulus
- includes verbal prompts, gestural prompts, modelling prompts, physical prompts
- *you need another person
15
Q
prompt fading
A
- the response prompt is eliminated gradually as the behaviour occurs in the presence of th SD
