Lacks face-to-face social cues

Writing an email
It can be sent to anyone; have a subject line and introduction; use titles; avoid slang; be careful with humor; be concise; use a conclusion; mention attached files
Sending an email strategically
Use CC and BCC; think carefully before replying all; use a professional screen name
Synchronous vs. Asynchronous
Synchronous: both parties have to be present for the conversation to happen (Skype, immediate text messaging/IMing, audio, online games)
Asynchronous: messages are stored for the receiver (email, bulletin boards, social networking, texting)
How do synchronous and asynchronous forms of communication affect teams?
Know which ones to use during which process of the project; don’t want to be stuck waiting for people to respond
