Chapter 6 BNF (Antidiuretic Hormone) Flashcards
What is Diabetes insipidus?
Large amounts of urine secreted
What are the two types of Diabetes insipidus?
Cranial
Nephrogenic
What’s the aetiology of cranial diabetes insipidus?
Hypothalamus doesn’t make enough ADH
What’s the treatment for cranial diabetes insipidus?
Vasopressin (ADH)
Desmopressin (synthetic, linger acting)
What’s the treatment for nephrogenic diabetes insipidus and why?
Thiazides
Kidneys do not respond to ADH
What’s the notable side effects of Desmopressin?
Hyponatraemic convulsions
What’s the issue with in appropriate secretion of ADH?
Hyponatreamia
What’s the treatment for inappropriate secretion of ADH?
Demeclocycline
Tolvaptan (vasopressin antagonist)
Why should rapid correction of Hyponatremia be avoided
CNS side effects
