“Central States”
It was made up of Cheng, Wey, Jin, and the Zhou land itself; the center of China.
Chuang
He is the Duke of Cheng, his kingdom was near King Huan’s kingdom. He captured Hsu, a small and nonthreatening state south of Cheng and it was the palace where kings worshiped.
Hegemon
He was the Duke Huan of Qi, he gave himself this name in 679 B.C. It means overlord.
Huan
He is the king of the land around the Zhou area, he did not treat Chuang like the “norm” which involved an acknowledgement of the duke of Cheng’s powers in his own right.
“Square Wall”
The huge wall was built under the directions of the Duke of Chu along his northern border. It served as defense against barbarians and also the ambitions of the new Hegemon.
Wen
A kingdom thirty miles along the Yellow river from Shu-tai’s brother’s old royal residence.
