12
Q

hoe kunnen stereotypes ontstaan

A

22
Q

the more salient and obvious cues are to category membership,

A

the more likely a stereotype will come up (bv slurs)

23
Q

in welke situatie meer stereotypes

A

time pressure, andere conditions in which people’s cognitively capacity is lager (morning or night person), of als de info te complex is en we het niet snappen -> makkelijker om uit te gaan van stereotypes, als iemand emotioneel is.

people in power, want:
- many stereotypes support the social position of the powerful even more

24
Q

overcoming stereotyping

A
  • correct info
  • expose to counterstereotypic info
25
being unprejudiced =
not claiming that you never have a stereotypic thought, but juist acknowledging them and making conscious effort to not accept it
26
we believe stereotypes are accurate due to:
- confirmation bias - confidence from consensus: if many people belief it, it will probably be true
27
we also interpret vague/ambiguous info as the stereotype
oke
28
conversion =
the idea that a stereotype can be changed by one single experience
29
sometimes people defend their stereotype by referring to a subset within that stereotype
bv feminists bij vrouwen
30
contrast effect
