Q

What is bulk transport?

A

Another form of active transport - when large molecules such as enzymes, hormones and whole cells like bacteria are to large to move through channel or carrier proteins, so they move into and out of cell

Q

How does active transport work to move substances inside and outside a cell?

A
  1. The molecule or ion to transported binds to receptors in the channel of the carrier protein on the outside of the cell
  2. On the inside of the cell - ATP binds to the carrier protein to change shape. Opening up the inside cell.
  3. Binding of the phosphate molecule to the carrier protein causes protein to change shape. m
