Chapter 2: 2.5 Flashcards
The ultrastructure of plant cells
1
Q
Explain what the vacuole is
A
- The vacuole is in the plant cell’s cytoplasm
- The vacuole contains cell sap
- The vacuole produces turgor in order to maintain the cell’s pressure against the cell wall
2
Q
Explain what a chloroplast is
A
- Chlorpoplasts are organelles that are have a responsibility in photosynthesis
- Chloroplasts are always found in the green parts of a plant, for example the leaves, stems and sometimes roots, but most of the time aren’t present in the plant’s roots
- Chloroplasts have a double membrane
- Chloroplasts contain DNA and ribosomes
- Chloroplasts can make their own protein for various purposes
3
Q
What is the granum?
A
Several thylakoids
4
Q
What are lamellae?
A
Grana
5
Q
What do grana contain?
A
Pigments
6
Q
What are starch grains?
A
- Excess starch stored from from photosynthesis
- Found in the lamellae
