hypnosis

inattentional blindness:
filing to see visual objects when our attention is focused elsewhere
inattentional numbness
failing to feel a sensation when attention is focused elsewhere
selective attention
focusing conscious awareness on a particular stimulus
dual processing
the principle that information is often simultaneously processed on separate conscious and unconscious tracks

deliberate, “high road”, reflective

automatic, “low road”, intuitive
blindsight
a condition in which a person can respond to visual stimulus without consciously experiencing it
visual perception track
enables us to recognize things and to plan future actions

parallel processing
processing many aspects of a stimulus or problem simultaneously - enables mind to take care of routine business
sequential processing
processing one aspect of a stimulus or problem at a time; generally used to process new information and to problem solve
