Function of Hormones and how they are transported?
Are made and secreted by endocrine glands, usually carried by the circulatory system, and communicate regulatory messages to specific sites in the body. Only affect target cells, cells that have receptors for that specific hormone.
Function of oxytocin?
Stimulates contraction of the uterus and mammary glands.
Functions of endorphins?
Mask Pain
Function of FSH?
Stimulates production of Ova and sperm
Function of Insulin?
Lowers blood glucose level
Function of Glucagon?
Raises blood glucose levels
Function of Estrogen?
Stimulates uterine lining growth, promote development and maintenance of female secondary sex characteristics
Function of Testosterone?
Support sperm formation, promote development and maintenance of male secondary sex characteristics.
What is the difference between Type I and Type II diabetes?
Type I is considered and autoimmune disorder, Type II is lifestye caused. Both require insulin injections.
Location and function of hypothalamus?
Part of the brain, it is the main control center of the endrocrine system
Location and function of the thyroid?
Located in the neck just under the larynx and produces the hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine which increase oxygen consumption and metabolic rate in all cells of your body.
Location and function of Adrenal Glands?
Paired structures resting atop each kidney. Secrete epinephrine and norepinephrine which enable short term rapid response to stress and produce flight or fight response
Location and function of the pancreas?
Located in the intestines. Manages the bodies supply of insulin and glucagon.
