chapter 18 test Flashcards
what is sublimation. release or absorb heat?
when a solid turn to gas: absorbs latent heat
what is depositon. release or absorb heat?
when gas turns to a solid: release latent heat
what is melting. release or absorb heat?
when a solid turns into liquid: absorbs latent heat
what is condensation. release or absorb heat?
when gas turns into liquid. releases latent heat
what is freezing. release or absorb heat?
when liquid turns into a solid. Releases latent heat
what is evaporation. release or absorb heat?
when a liquid turns into gas: absorbs latent heat
what is the unit that we use for weather stuff that starts with a J
joules
why is it colder when their is wind? what is the effect
because the wind blows the air surrounding us and makes it cold. the wind chill effect
describe condensation process
water vapor molecules in warm air move fast. the molecules dont come together and condense well. but as air cools osme molecules move closer and join allowing condensation to happen.
what is relative humididty
the measure of amount of water vapor in air, compared to what it could hold
does cold or warm air hold more water
warm air
what is saturation
it is when enough water vapor is present in the air for condensation
what is dewpoint
the temp at which air is saturated and condensation happens.
what is the tool that measures relative humidity
psychrometer.
what is adiabatic temperature changes
its the temperature change that occurs without being added or removed
