21 Flashcards
what is the climate
30 years of weather.
what is the upper and lower boundary of the tropicals
tropic of cancer, tropic of capricorn.
why is it colder at the poles and hot at the equator
because the sun rays directly hit the equator. and they hit the poles but there is less of it and it could get easily reflected.
what are the three regions called
polar, temperate, and tropical.
what is the upper and lower boundary of the temperate zone
arctic, and antarctic circle.
why does the windward side get the rain explain it.
because it comes from the ocean. it goes us reaches dew point and warms coming down.
how much does temp decrease as u go higher
6.5 celcius cooler every thousand meters.
what does less humidity mean for water storage
can hold more water
how come norway is rather warm
because of the gulf stream, north atlantic.
what winds do we have. equator.
prevailing westerlies. trade winds.
why is it called the equatorial low
Due to the vertical rays of the sun here, there is intense heating. The air, therefore, expands and rises as convection current causing low pressure to develop here.
what are the five sections and their subsections
Humid tropical:wet tropics, tropical wet and dry
Humid Mid latitude (Mild winters): Dry summer subtropical, Humid subtropical, Marine west coast.
Humid mid latitude(severe winters): Humid continental, subarctic.
Dry: steppe or semiarid, desert or arid.
Polar: Tundra, ice cap
Highland
what is it called when leaves lose humidity? what does it make our climate?
transpiration. makes it more humid.
what is the koppen climate classification
when koppen divided the climates into 5 sections
what are the two things that make up climate
temperature and humidity.
