Chapter 14- Analysis for acids and bases Flashcards
what are primary standards
substances that are so pure that the amount of substance, in moles, can be calculated accurately from their mass
how are standard solutions prepared
by dissolving an accurately measured mass of a primary standard in an accurately measured volume of water
what do we use volume-volume stoichiometry for
to calculate the concentration of an unknown substance
what is titration
is when we react a chemical of unknown concentration with a chemical with a concentration that we know
what is the limiting reactant
the reactant that is used up in the reaction
what is the excess reactant
the reactant that isn’t used up in the reaction (there is some left over)
what is the equivalence point
when all the acid has been neutralised by the base (or vise versa)
