Anoxia
Condition characterized by the lack of an oxygen supply
Bradypnea
Decreased respiratory rate.
Less than 10 breaths/min in adults
Bronchospasm
Involuntary contraction of the bronchioles
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow causing constrction of bronchi that carry air into and out of the lungs
Crepitus
Cracking feeling of the skin of the chest that is detected by palpation. caused by the presence of trapped air beneath the skin
Dyspnea
Difficult or labored breathing accompanied by feeling short of breath
Hyperventilation Syndrome
Abnormally low levels of CO2 in the blood
Hypoxia
decreased amount of oxygen reaching the tissues
Inhaler
Device that contains respiratory medicine and is used to improve breathing
Pleura
Thin transparent membrane covering the outside of the lungs and the inside of the chest wall
Pleural Space
Potential space that lies within the pleura covering the outside o the lungs and the inside of the chest wall
Pneumothorax
Air within the pleural space
Ventilation
The process by which air moves into and out of the lungs
Wheezing
High-pitched respiratory sound caused by a narrowing of the tubular airways
