Chapter 12 Flashcards
Speed, Agility, and Quickness
speed
ability to move body in one intended direction as fast as possible
stride rate
number of strides taken in given amount of time/distance
frontside mechanics
proper alignment of lead leg and pelvis during sprinting (ankle dorsiflexion, knee flexion, hip flexion, neutral pelvis)
backside mechanics
proper alignment of rear leg and pelvis during sprinting (ankle plantar flexion, knee extension, hip extension, neutral pelvis)
agility
ability to accelerate, decelerate, stabilize, and change direction quickly while maintaining proper posture
quickness
ability to react and chance body position with maximal rate of force production, in all planes of motion and from all body positions
SAQ Phase 1- Stabilization
4-6 drills with limited inertia and unpredictability (cone shuffles, agility ladders)
SAQ Phase 2,3,4- Strength
6-8 drills with greater inertia but limited unpredictability (5-10-5 drill, T-drill, box drill, stand up to figure 8)
SAQ Phase 5- Power
6-10 drills allowing max inertia and unpredictability (modified box drill, partner mirror drill, timed drills)
