Chapter 10 Flashcards
Balance Training
balance
when body is in equilibrium and stationary (no movement)
dynamic balance
ability to move and change directions under various conditions without falling
limit of stability
to train a client to their own balance threshold- distance they can move without losing control of center of gravity
Balance Phase 1- Stabilization
little joint movement, to improve stabilization at slow tempo so body learns to react (single-leg balance, single-leg balance reach, single-leg rotation, single-leg lift and chop, single-leg throw and catch)
Balance Phase 2,3,4- Strength
dynamic movements of the balance leg through full range of motion at medium tempo (single-leg squat, single-leg squat touchdown, single-leg RDL, multiplanar step-up to balance, multiplanar lunge to balance)
Balace Phase 5- Power
Proper deceleration ability to move body from dynamic state to stationary position (multiplanar hop with stabilization, multiplanar single leg box hop up with stabilization, multiplanar single leg box up down with stabilization)
