The subdivision of the female or male perineum that contains the anus
Anal triangle
A muscle that has an action opposite of that of the prime mover (agonist) and yields to the movement of the prime mover
Antagonist
Nearer to or at the front of the boy. Equivalent to the ventral in bipeds
Anterior
The abdomen. The gaster or prominent, fleshy part of a skeletal muscle
Belly
The tendon of the soleus, gastrocnemius, and plantaris muscles at the back of the heel. Also called the Achilles tendon
Calcaneal tendon
Away from the surface of the body or an organ
Deep
Movement in which a part of the body moves inferiorly
Depression
Any partition that separates one area from another, especially the dome-shaped skeletal muscle between the thoracic and abdominal cavities. Also a dome-shaped device that is place over the cervix, usually with a spermicide, to prevent conception
Diaphragm
Movement in which a part of the body moves superiorly
Elevation
An oblique passageway in the anterior abdominal wall just superior and parallel to the medial half of the inguinal ligament that transmits the spermatic cord and ilioinguinal nerve in the male and round ligament of the uterus and ilioinguinal nerve in the female
Inguinal canal
The attachment of a muscle tendon to a movable bone or the end opposite the origin
Insertion
Between two structures, one of which is a medial and one of which is lateral
Intermediate
Farther from the midline of the body or a structure
Lateral
The attachment of a muscle tendon to a stationary bone or the end opposite the insertion
Origin
The pelvic floor; the space between the anus and the scrotum in the male and between the anus and the vulva in the female
