What is sport & exercise psychology ?
- its the scientific study of people & their behaviours in sport & exercise & the practical application of that knowledge
- its also the study of the effect psychological & emotional factors have on sport & exercise performance & the effect sport & exercise has on psychological & emotional factors
What are the factors of performance on demand?
- motivation, self-awareness, goal setting, arousal/activation control, self-talk, imagery, focus, coping, routines
- other factors include commitment, confidence, composure, character, & competitiveness
The history of sports psychology
- post world war 2, universities established laboratories in motor learning & behaviour to determine how people learned motor skills & how practice feedback influenced learning
