Asthma
Airway narrowing, swelling
May produce extra mucus
Coughing, wheezing/whistling, SOB
Chronic bronchitis
Inflammation/swelling of bronchial tubes
Mucus build up
Emphysema
Permanent enlargement of air spaces w/ destruction of alveolar walls
Reduced gas exchange, impaired expiratory airflow, air trapping
Pneumonia
Infection in one or both lungs (bacteria, fungi, viruses)
Inflammation in air sacs
Alveoli filled w/ fluid or pus
Difficulty breathing
Pleural effusion
Build up of excess fluid b/t layers of pleura outside the lungs
Pneumothorax
Collapsed lung
Air leakage into space b/t lung and chest wall causes lung collapse
trachea deviates to CL to impairment
Atelectasis
Collapse of lung or lobe of lung (deflated alveoli)
Common following surgery
Fremitus
Vibratory tremors
Can be felt thru palpation
“99”, “blue moon”
Acute compartment syndrome sxs
6 Ps
Pain
Palpable tenderness
Paresthesia
Pallor
Paresis
Pulselessness
Myocardial ischemia
Left neck/jaw pain along w/ chest pain
Anaphylaxis
Sudden hives, itching, SOB, rapid or weak pulse
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Excessive thirst, confusion, difficulty concentrating, fruity odor
Heat stroke
Temp >104, altered mental status, hot, dry skin, tachycardia, headache
