1
Q

Q

what’s mono tropic bond

A

this attachment is to one specific caregiver
this usually is to the biological mother and is more important than any other attachments that the child may form

Q

what’s the internal working model

A

monotropic bond acts as a template for all later relationships
this template known as the internal working model affects the child’s ability to be a parent later in life

Q

What’s the critical period

A

The first 2.5 years of life is classed as the critical period
If the attachment doesn’t develop by then it may damage the child’s social and emotional development

Q

What are the evolutionary principles

A

Bowlbys explanation of attachment is based on the fact that humans have evolved a biological need to attach to caregiver to increase their survival chances
Infants show social releases which is an innate behaviour
They bring out caregiving behaviours from adults

Q

What’s a support for the internal working model

A
  • supported by evidence
  • attachment was assessed of 99 mothers to their babies and their own mothers they found that majority had the same attachment classification with their own mothers and babies. This supports the fact that bowlbys view that an internal working model of attachment is passed through families

Q

What are the limitations

A

-sensitive period rather than critical
It argues that critical period is not supported by evidence
Research shows that children who are raised in isolation still have the ability to form attachments
CA- is that imprinting didn’t occur after critical period in Lorenz

Q

What are another limitations

A

Important multiple attachments are formed rather than monotropic bond
Not supported by research , for example infants can have important bonds with grandparents and siblings which may be equally as important. This decreases the internal validity of the experiment

Q

What’s a strength

A

Its empirical support for the continuity hypothesis
Research shows there’s a link between early attachment styles and later romantic relationships and has a profound impact on a persons social development. This research shows the Importance of early bonding therefore increases internal validity
