These 2 cavities are continuous but are considered separate entities.
What are the cranial & vertebral canals?
This cavity contains the heart & lungs.
What is thoracic?
This structure separates the thoracic & abdominal cavities.
What is the diaphragm?
The trunk consists of these 3 body parts.
What are the head, torso, & pelvis?
This cavity houses the liver.
What is abdominal?
This cavity houses the spleen.
What is abdominal?
This cavity houses the stomach.
What is abdominal?
This cavity houses the brain.
What is cranial?
This cavity houses the internal reproductive organs.
What is pelvic?
This cavity houses the bladder.
What is pelvic?
This cavity houses the spinal cord.
What is the vertebral canal (spinal)?
Toward the left side of the body.
What is left?
Toward the right side of the body.
What is right?
Toward the front or belly.
What is anterior/ventral?
Toward the back.
What is posterior/dorsal?
Toward the head or upward & above; pertains to the trunk anatomy.
What is superior/cephalad?
Toward the tail or downward & below; pertains to the trunk anatomy.
What is inferior/caudal?
Toward the trunk or origin of a structure; pertains to the limb anatomy.
What is proximal?
Further from the trunk or origin of a structure; pertains to the limb anatomy.
What is distal?
Toward the midline (median plane).
What is medial?
Further from the midline (median plane).
What is lateral?
Toward the body surface.
What is superficial?
Further away from the body surface.
What is deep?
This plane divides an equal right and left.
What is midsagittal?
This plane divides inferior and superior.
What is transverse?
This plane divides an unequal right and left.
What is sagittal?
This plane divides anterior and posterior.
What is frontal/coronal?
