Biomolecules Flashcards
What’s the difference between alpha glucose and beta glucose?
Alpha glucose has an OH below the ring on C1 of glucose
Beta glucose has an OH above the ring on C1 of glucose
Make sure you can draw them: https://www.google.com/search?q=alpha+glucose+vs+beta+glucose&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB579GB579&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjFpOfs4ZXjAhX1lFwKHVKSAQgQ_AUIECgB&biw=1363&bih=639#imgrc=EKoTuIuDO8OyUM:
Glucose is a monomer. When it polymerises what does it form?
An example of a glucose polymer is starch or cellulose. Both of these molecules are carbohydrates
What is a disaccharide?
A disaccharide is a molecule made up of two sugars e.g. maltose is made up of two glucose molecules. Lactose is made up of glucose and galactose
