Antiviral Chemotherapy & Prophylaxis Flashcards
DOC: CMV
SE: leukopenia
Gancyclovir
Antiviral MOA: activated by viral thymidine kinase to form that inhibit viral DNA polymerase
Use: HSV-1, HSV 2, VZV
Acyclovir
Antiviral Use: CMV retinitis, molluscom contagiosum (umbilicated papule)
Cifodovir
Antiviral MOA- inhibits viral RNA polymerase, DNA polymerase & HIV reverse transcriptase, bind to pyrophosphate binding site
Use: CMV retinitis, HSV infection w/ AIDS
Active against strains of HSV w/ absent thymidine kinase activity
Foscarnet
