management for mycoplasma, coxiella and psittaci
tetracyclines (doxycycline) and macrocodes (clarithromycin)
management for legionella
clarithromycin, erythromycin and levofloxacin
HAP non-severe
amoxicillin + metronidazole (or doxycycline + metronidazole)
HAP severe
amoxicillin + gentamicin (or co-trimoxazole + gentamicin)
aspiration non-severe
amoxicillin + metronidazole (ordoxcycline + metronidazole)
aspiration severe
amoxicillin (or doxycycline or clarithromycin) + metronidazole + gentamicin
when to use antibiotics in acute exacerbation of COPD
only if high sputum purulence, if no sputum then only if there is consolidation of CXR
management in acute exacerbation of COPD
1st line: amoxicillin
2nd line: doxycycline
acute cough/ acute bronchitis
only if frail and/or elderly then 1st line is amoxicillin and 2nd line is doxycycline
