ANATOMY | Cardiovascular System II Flashcards
Cardiovascular System
The heart wall has Three Layers, from Deep to Superficial:
ENDOCARDIUM
MYOCARDIUM
EPICARDIUM
The inner part of the heart and it is composed of simple squamous epithelium.
ENDOCARDIUM
The thickest part of the heart wall and is made up of cardiac muscle.
MYOCARDIUM
The outer surface of the heart.
EPICARDIUM
The heart has four hollow chambers:
Two Superior ATRIA and Two inferior VENTRICLES.
Each atrium has a wrinkled anterior pouch called an
auricle
Internally , the atria are separated by the
interatrial septum
the ventricles are separated by the
interventricular septum
Receives O2- poor blood from the three veins
right atrium
“___________ receives O2- poor blood from the three veins… “
WHAT ARE THE THREE VEINS?
the superior vena cava
the coronary sinus
inferior vena cava.
The valve in this, like other heart valves , directs the flow of blood and prevents any backflow
RIGHT ATRIUM
The AV valve on the right side of the heart is specifically called the ____________ because it has three cusps, or flaps.
tricuspid valve
The cusps of the tricuspid valve are connected to fibrous cords, called the _______________
CHORDAE TENDINEAE
“heart strings”
CHORDAE TENDINEAE
are connected to the papillary muscles, which are conical extensions of the myocardium
