Nationality mark
1) represents the country or state where the aircraft is registered
it is placed before the Registration mark
common mark
1) Used instead of a nationality mark by a non-national agency of some kind
registration marks
numbers, letters or combination of both
External markings located at..
- under left wing
- or spread accross both wings (b/w leading and trailing edge)
- in large aircraft, its under the left wing, on the left half of the wing)
- on both sides of fuselage between wing and tail
- or on the top halves of the other section of the fins
Internal markings
On a fire proof identification plate
- In large aircraft - near front of entrance
- In small aircraft - by radio (can be the call sign too)
Assignment of Marks
Involves:
ITU - International Telecommunication Union
State of Registry
ICAO
Common mark registration authority
Assigning Nationality marks
- selected from a series of nationality sysmbols
- ITU assigns them to State of registry
Assigning common marks
selected from a series of symbols by UTI to ICAO
ICAO then assigns them to common marks registration authority
Assinign registration marks
State of Registry or Common Mark Registration authority assigns individual aircrafts unique marks
not allowed to use Q codes or any combination of letters that can be confusied for important ones or emergency ones…
ie - cannot use Pan, sos, ttt, xxx,
